Abstract
Zachary Determan is a junior at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, double majoring in history and political science. Inspired to write about the Russian experience after he realized he knew nearly nothing about it from his studies of World War II, Determan delved into the question of who the soldiers fighting for the Soviets were and why they decided to fight.
