Abstract

Recent military discourse underscores the vital need for an AI-ready workforce, crucial for leveraging AI technology's battlefield advantage. However, defining this workforce remains nebulous, with current proposals primarily emphasizing technical proficiency while overlooking broader AI applications. In response, this article advocates for an AI skills-in-depth model, focusing on graduated technical skills, leadership education, and prioritizing lower-skilled technicians. Emphasizing the maintenance and adaptability of AI-enabled systems, it highlights the evolving nature of AI's role in military operations, necessitating a multifaceted approach to workforce development.
